Photos: Knowing Buddha/ Wet-babe
Knowing Buddha, a Bangkok-based organization promoting Buddhism, is demanding Penthouse magazine apologize for old photos of model “Coco Velvett” baring it all with a Buddha statue.
According to the organization’s announcement on Facebook, a gallery of steamy Coco Velvett photos has been spreading online, despite the fact they seem to have been taken four years ago.
“Coco Velvett tempts the Buddha with her hot and wet, naked Oriental body before she wades into the tranquil waters of the exotic tropical waterfalls pool!” reads the caption, which sounds like something a 13-year-old would have written. In 1958.
Although the photos are obviously not from Penthouse Thailand, and Coco is not in any way Asian let alone “Oriental,” the organization chose to go after the Thai publisher of the nudie magazine, and has called on the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Information and Communication Technology to force the publisher to show responsibility and apologize.
“Penthouse magazine did not think of how over 500 million Buddhists worldwide would feel when they see this,” the organization wrote on Facebook. “The magazine’s shameful photo shoot has reflected humanity’s low moral standards because the magazine must know who Buddha is and that his statues are worshipped by Buddhists.”
Knowing Buddha claims the photos were published by Penthouse Sunnyvale, based in California, and the organization has also filed a complaint to them.
After exhaustive research that took most of Friday afternoon, the only evidence Coconuts Bangkok could find on Penthouse’s site of the shoot in question was one page featuring her as “Penthouse Babe of the Day” for April 5, 2010.
That’s practically antique porn, by Internet standards.
