Rejoice! For the real ramen deal is here from Japan

COCONUTS HOT SPOT — Just when you think there is already an overabundance of Japanese restaurants around Bangkok, I am happy to report to you that we’ve lived to see the dawn of the “real deal” hitting the scene.

If you’re a frequent visitor and food enthusiast of this country, you should already know what to expect next. Just last month, we welcomed yet another great Japanese-national ramen franchise to the city: Ippudo, a place we’ve truly been anticipating since Central Embassy opened its doors.

Yes it’s finally here – Japan’s most beloved ramen shop, and in my opinion, the world’s best place to drink tonkatsu broth out of the bowl.

Needless to say, the restaurant keeps up with the standard that its impassioned fans would expect.  The restaurant’s menu is short and sweet with only three ramen choices: Shiromaru Motoaji of tonkatsu broth with ultra-thin noodle and pork loin (THB200), Akamaru Shinaji of tonkatsu broth with miso-garlic paste served with thin noodle and pork belly (THB220), and Karakamen of tonkatsu broth with spicy miso served with ground pork (THB230). From there, you can choose how cooked you want your noodles to be (hard, medium, or soft), as well as what kinds of additional toppings you want to add to the bowl–egg, seaweed, or more pork cutlets. (Of course, this comes with varying additional charges.)

Whereas in Japan, Ippudo Ramen is popular for its low-key vibes, street-style service, and just how fast you can wrap up a quick quality meal; here in Bangkok, Ippudo strays quite far from the sidewalk, where most of its shops reside in its motherland. Overseas, the brand strikes a more modern vibe as you can probably tell by the location the brand has chosen to debut its first branch. With this new vibe come the city crowds and, inevitably, the long, painful queue of excited customers. If you’re planning to have a quick lunch here, you might as well give that up and save it for a slow day when waiting one hour for a meal doesn’t affect your day’s plan.
