Finding the nanny who captured street moment and self-portrait before it was cool

In 2007, thousands of hidden undeveloped rolls of films were discovered at an auction by filmmaker John Maloof.

Developing the images, Maloof found 100,000 amazing images taken from streets in the United States as well as international locales such as Thailand and India.

His attempt to track down the photographer, a nanny named Vivian Maier who’s now considered one of the most accomplished street photographers of the 20th Century, was made into a documentary that will screen next month. Maier died poor and unknown in 2009.

Presented by the Documentary Club “Finding Vivian Maier” follows Maloof on his journey to discover who Vivian Maier was.

The first series of screenings sold out, so three more have been added at 5pm on Dec. 12, 13 and 14, which can be booked in advance starting Saturday. The film is in English with Thai subtitle.

A discussion “Street Photography and Vivian Maier” will also be hosted by Street Photo Thailand at 6:30pm on Nov. 30 at SF World Cinema. The talk is in Thai.
