McDonald’s says no link between tainted Japanese McNugget and Thailand

McDonald’s and its Thai meat supplier have said they found no link between a piece of vinyl discovered in a chicken “McNugget” at a Japanese McDonald’s and a plant owned by Cargill Thailand.

McDonald’s Japan and Cargill Inc. said the plastic, which sparked a food-safety outcry in Japan when it was discovered Jan. 3 in Misawa, was not something used at the factory where the McNuggets were made in Saraburi province.

“We are very confident that the plastic film in the nugget occurred outside our production plant,” Chuck Warta, president of Cargill Meats Thailand, said in the statement.

The outcry over the contaminated McNugget (redundancy?) came after the Thai supplier had been chosen to replace a Chinese source following a food scare in July when it was revealed the Chinese firm mixed spoiled meat in with its fresh meat.
